Excellence on Your Schedule

The Online METL program is designed specifically for engineers and technology professionals who can't—and shouldn't have to—pause their careers to earn a graduate degree. You'll master advanced technical specializations and leadership strategies while staying immersed in the real-world challenges that make those skills matter.

The 100% online, asynchronous format coupled with live faculty interactions means you learn on your schedule, from wherever you are, while earning a UC Santa Barbara credential. Better yet, because you're working while you study, you can immediately apply what you're learning—testing leadership approaches with your team, bringing cutting-edge technical insights to your projects, and using strategic tools to solve actual problems in your organization.

Through applied projects, industry case studies, and your capstone experience, you'll build expertise that translates directly to impact. And with faculty office hours, peer collaboration, and dedicated program support, you'll never navigate this alone.

How the Online Format Works

Each course in the Online METL program includes a variety of asynchronous content, and either a weekly live session run by the course instructor or regular instructor drop-in hours. The asynchronous course delivery lets you learn when and where it works for you—whether that's early morning before work, evenings after your team heads home, or weekends when you have focused time. You'll engage with course materials, complete assignments, and collaborate with peers on your schedule.

METL’s online format is intentionally designed for technology professionals preparing for leadership, combining live faculty interactions, office hours, and cohort discussions that add real-time connection and support throughout the program. You're never just watching recorded lectures—you're part of an active learning community.
