The METL program is structured on a pay-per-course basis to align with employer tuition benefits and flexible pacing in order to make graduate education manageable for working professionals. Students are often able to fund their degree in full or in part through funding from their organizations, many of which have strong partnerships with UCSB.
UCSB's long-standing relationships with leading technology and engineering companies mean the METL program has workforce development in mind—making it easier for employers to support your growth and for you to advance without financial strain.
METL is a professional graduate degree program. Program fees include the program tuition, which is assessed per unit when you register for courses, and a quarterly fee that covers digital technology and personalized student services.
| Total Program Tuition | $41,097 ($1,082 per unit) |
| Quarterly Fees (estimated for 2027-28 academic year) | $150/quarter |
METL covers the cost of all course materials.
Methods to Save Time and Money
Another key benefit of the online METL program is the ability to continue to work while pursuing your degree, without having to relocate or arrange for student housing. In addition, UCSB reduces your expenses by eliminating the requirement for GMAT or GRE scores, and by covering the costs of all course materials.
Employer Support
Many employers provide financial assistance to employees completing the METL program while remaining employed at their company. Check with your employer to see if such opportunities are available to you.
Student Aid and Fellowships
Our financial support packages include diversity- and merit-based fellowships. All admitted students are automatically considered for departmental financial support; there is no additional application required. The Master of Engineering and Technology Leadership Admissions Committee reviews applications holistically. Support varies based on academic performance, work experience, extracurricular and leadership experience, and fit with the program.
Federal Aid
U.S. citizens (or eligible non-citizens) may apply for U.S. federal government student aid such as Direct Loans, Grad PLUS Loans, and work-study by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The UCSB Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships offers a helpful guide on how to apply for financial aid as well as a tutorial on how to submit your FAFSA.
